Sallie Clark, President of the National Association of Counties has appointed Belmont County Commissioner Ginny Favede to serve as Vice Chair of the Community, Economic and Workforce Development Committee. NACo members support federal policies programs that provide tools, resources and solutions needed to spur job growth, improve quality of life and increase the economic competitiveness of America’s local counties and communities.
“I am pleased to be appointed to a national leadership position that allows me to continue my commitment to advancing policies that encourage and incentivize economic development which lead to job creation, “said Commissioner Favede, “It is wonderful for the people of Belmont County and Eastern Ohio to have a voice advocating for them on a national level.”
NACo steering committee members play a critical role in advancing legislative and policy priorities important to the nation’s counties. The three top priorities of the CEWD this year are to restore funding for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program for FY 2016, restore funding for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) for FY 2016 and restore funding for the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) in the FY 2016 Commerce, Justice and Science Appropriations Bill.
NACo’s Community, Economic and Workforce Development Steering Committee has jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to housing, community and economic development and workforce development programs. Particular emphasis is on advocating for funding for federal programs such as the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, the HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) Program, Economic Development Assistance (EDA) programs and Workforce Investment Opportunity Act (WIOA) program. The committee also works to refine the role of federal, state and county governments in enhancing workforce and economic development opportunities and to create housing options for different populations.
The CEWD committee has three subcommittees, which focus on issues under its jurisdiction. The subcommittees are: the Housing Subcommittee; the Economic Development Subcommittee; and the Workforce Development Subcommittee.
“I am confident that NACo will benefit from Commissioner Favede’s service as Vice-Chair of the Community, Economic and Workforce Development Committee,” stated CCAO Executive Director Suzanne Dulaney. “Commissioner Favede has contributed greatly to our association in various leadership positions and as a member of our Economic Development Symposium Planning Committee, where her insights and expertise were invaluable.” Favede currently serves as the Vice-President of the Board of Belmont County Commissioners and the Treasurer of the Executive Board of the County Commissioners Association of Ohio. Favede has served as a member of the National Association of Counties CEWD Committee for three years.
